The playful carefree dolphins can be seen in groups sometimes in the hundreds. Types of dolphins: spotted, spinner, bottle nosed, roughtoot, and common dolphin. The large whales such as the humpback whale, among others visit Costa Rica from both North and South America. Because of this Costa Rica has the longest whale season in the world. The whale season starts in July and lasts until October but dolphins and whales can be spotted at any time of the year.
